Fares Micue, a self-taught fine art and conceptual self-portrait photographer born in Lanzarote (Canary Islands), Spain, initially began her photography journey in 2009 as a hobby. Can you share a bit about your artistic journey and what led you to pursue your current style or medium?
I have always felt attracted to art, especially cinema, I wanted to be an actress since I lived the capacity of the actors to give life to the different characters each one of them with a different story and lesson to teach. When I got into photography I found a way to somehow fulfilled the dream of sharing stories by portraying different characters, but my current style was only born when I realized the exact message I wanted to share and that was positivity and empowerment because is a message that I also need for myself.
What are some of the main sources of inspiration for your artwork?
The main ones are of course my own experiences but, also the experiences of others. I am an observer and I like to see how others react to the different situations in their life. From that, I realized that we all long for the same thing,  happiness, we all want to feel happy and fulfilled even if we search in different places, and seek different experiences.
Could you describe your creative process from the initial idea to the finished piece?
When wanted to create an image I try to extract from my mind as many details as I can, as this will later help me to create the image exactly like a want it. To have the story previously written down as well as a rough sketch is very useful.
Are there any specific themes or messages that you try to convey through your art?
I always aim to portray hope, positivity, and empowerment as my main message. I believe in the power we have to transform our environment and outcomes in life. I believe that if we try hard enough and long enough we can achieve any goal. But I also have a very romantic mind and I like to create stories about love, whether this love is reciprocated or not, platonic, carnal, or emotional.
How do you handle creative blocks or challenges when they arise?
When I get a block I have to approach, I take it as a time to reset and go back to those things that always make me feel inspired, relaxed, and dreamy, like music, movies, or quiet walks in nature (Always at sunset or very early morning). Nonetheless other times I choose to keep working despite not feeling inspired in order to work without pressure or expectations in the result and that help me to relax and actually get back in sync with my feelings.
Can you talk about any memorable or significant moments in your artistic career so far?
This moment will always remain the most memorable one in my career, and it is the day I got my first sale ever it was back in March 2019 with the piece "If life gives you lemons", cause it gave the warmest feeling ever, to see that there were people out there that felt connected to my work enough to make it part of their life. I feel grateful for all my collectors whether they feel attracted to my work for the colors, the aesthetic, or the feelings. Every time my work goes to a different home is special.
Are there any particular artists or movements that have influenced your work?
I think it was when I discovered conceptual photography back in 2009 thanks to Flick. One of my favorite photographers is Gregory Crewson I am just in love with the melancholic feeling in his work and how he uses the morning light.
Do you have any favorite tools, techniques, or materials that you prefer to use in your art?
By seeing my work we can deduct that my favorite elements are flowers, plants, balloons and origami ;)
Are there any upcoming projects or exhibitions that you're excited about and would like to share?
I usually don't have many projects under wrap, I always work and create new pieces and I look forward to releasing them at the right time, nonetheless I am currently working on a new series and I look forward to realizing them soon.
Lastly, what advice would you give to aspiring artists who are just starting their creative journey?
I always advise the same to new artists, find your voice and your message, practice a lot and most times look for inspiration on your inside rather than your outside.
